OUTRO introduces ROOM 101

“You asked me once, what was in Room 101. I told you that you knew the answer already.
Everyone knows it. The thing that is in Room 101 is the worst thing in the world.”

Outro have put together a wide variety of musical events and parties introducing the Greek audience to both homegrown and foreign music styles from autumn 2004. Covering a wide alternative musical spectrum Outro have worked with both young and established Greek artists and called on major and emerging international names.

For more than six years Outro have curated the music programming, produced and promoted all music events for Yoga Bala in Psirri. A small interlude from 2009 through 2010 found Outro collaborating with Bios presenting a series of events on a larger stage.

Over the years of events and collaborations Outro curated the Yoga Bala stage for Synch Festival in 2008, the “3 Velvet Days in Heaven” music stage during the 2nd Athens Biennale in 2009 and worked on prominent events alongside Θρι Σιξτι independent record store.

Outro have presented international artists such as Levon Vincent, Andrew Weatherall, Larry Heard aka Mr Fingers, Juan Atkins, Tako, Gerd Janson, Lovefingers & Lee Douglas, Tim Sweeney, Greg Wilson, Motor City Drum Ensemble, Horse Meat Disco, Alexander Robotnick, Alden Tyrell, Metro Area, House of House, Egyptian Lover, Prins Thomas, Maurice Fulton, I-f, Todd Terje, Daniel Wang, Pilooski, Cinnaman (Beat Dimensions), Rune Lindbaek, Richard Sen, Soft Rocks, Stevie Kotey, Beppe Loda, Aardvark and more.

Mauricio Rebolledo, who was born and raised in Xalapa, Mexico, started Djing in 2002 and became quickly one of the residents of the legendary “Santanera”, in Playa Del Carmen, at the mexican caribbean. There he developed his very own style of playing, mixing old and new odd dancetracks, driven by a persistent groove of disco.

Feeling the necessity of links between tracks he used to play in the club, he started developing his own rough and edgy rhythms. Matias Aguayo, whom he had played with several times at  his night in the “Santanera” got interested in his material, helped him to develop it and to share it with people, who had a similar taste or motivation… later Rebolledo should become fundamental member of the label “Cómeme” , as a result of these friendships and efforts…

After having debuted on “Cómeme” with his underground club hit “pitaya frenesi”, he now has released his first solo 12″  – “GUERRERO”, also on comeme, and we should not forget his project appearance as “PACHANGA BOYS” together with Superpitcher, on the KOMPAKT TOTAL 10 compilation…

The project began in San Francisco with Kieran Behan and Ashley Hayward joining forces having a burning desire to push the boundaries of decadent art. So they created the Crystal Mafia photobooth, which has grown over the past years to incorporate many avenues of creation. They have collected many talented female artists to encompass everything from performance art to set design and original costume production.

BODJ

Bodj began to collect music at the age of 12 after being put on to rock & punk by friends who would kindly compile tapes for him.

By 15 he discovered a talent for the art of graffiti prompting him to begin collecting old school hip hop, disco and early electro. His passion for b-boy art forms eventually led him one step further and by 2000 Bodj began to play hip hop through house to a soulful style for friends at small venues around and about…

Early 2005 Bodj took classes in sound engineering and electronic music production at the SAE institute of technology, the same period saw an explosion of the tech-house scene in which he immersed himself fully. Influenced by his studies and a new breed of house/techno producers Bodj was driven to further develop his own skills and cement a style based around house & techno and their variable sub-genres…

Bodj’s impeccable mixing style and technique has made him one of the hottest Athenian djs for the time being,with appearances at respected Greek venues & festivals such as Entechno festival,European Music Day,Six Dogs,Loop just to name a few..Bodj is also releasing music in labels such as diaphan ,percusa , monique musique etc, with more new stuff coming soon …prepare hear more of him in the near future..

Tucked away in their remote cosmic forest studio, Psychemagik are busy welding together a whole universe of lush, delirious, tripped out audio sonics for their long awaited studio album due for release late summer 2011.
The first official 12″ from this LP ‘Valley Of Paradise/Star Lazer’ is due for release on limited edition, hand numbered, coloured vinyl in June 2011.

As well as releasing edits on the super chic History Clock label, their stalwart end of nighter and festival anthem (Summer Of Love edit of Fleetwood Mac’s Everywhere) has been supported by Dj’s all around the world from Rob Da Bank on BBC Radio 1, Chris Coco on Melodica Radio and had the honour of being the last track at the closing party at Space in Ibiza. Other remixes and edits have also been getting plays by Lauren Laverne and Nemone on BBC Radio 6 and they have just featured a guest dj mix for Annie Nightingale for Radio 1, preview it here:

They also run their own ‘Discotheque Wreckers’ imprint, a home for their less known edits.
In between digging for rare records and making beats, Psychemagik also have a reputation as the go to guys for ultra rare records you won’t find anywhere else, counting Soulwax, Lovefingers, Q-Tip, Fake Blood, Tom Middleton & Faze Action amongst others, as satisfied customers.
On top of all this, they’ve also just released a kaleidoscopic, mind bending compilation on Light Sounds Dark Records ‘After The Void’ which has had love from Todd Terje, 2 Many Dj’s, Lexx, Felix Dickenson and Jaz to name a few…
As this hits the press they are currently working on a hot n breezy, tropical disco edit due out on ‘House Of Disco Records’ also due early summer that’s guaranteed to keep the fire burnin!!

… Founded just over a decade ago as an off shoot of the iconic Bunker imprint, Crème is now an independent operation and has grown exponentially to become a vital part of the music community that emanates from the Dutch West Coast. The musical focus has and always will remain on establishing and maintaining an identity that draws on strands of techno, electro, disco and house.
The label has over the years been responsible for releasing a raft of productions from Danny “Legowelt” Wolfers under his myriad of aliases as well as putting out music by such diverse luminaries as Alexander Robotnick, Aux 88, Nami Shimada, James T Cotton, Traxx, Bangkok Impact and Rude 66. Such a strong schedule of releases have been crucial in forming the imprint’s identity and establishing Crème as a key underground label. The distinct visual identity across the entire Crème discography and a commitment to releasing vinyl has further helped to engender such a strong following.
Recent times have brought under-appreciated classics such as the elongated DJ Sprinkles remix of Marco Bernardi, Basic Soul Unit getting rubbed down by 2562 under his A Made Up Sound alias and the distinct sounds of shadowy UK producer Myriadd.

The men of JOHN, Nik Dimopoulos and Timothy John Moore, also produced magazine They Shoot Homos Don’t They? and dance party TROUGH Faggot Party. TROUGH amalgamated artfags, bears, alterna-tinas and marys into one pretty mess – which meant lots of drunk boys and men on the floor. As diverse as the crowd, so was the music with djs slamming dark beats, homo-electro and a few manthems for some hands-in-the-air moments. The djs were a throng of internationals like Danny Wang (Balihu Records- Berlin), Mike Simonetti (Italians Do It Better), Japanese Cosmic Disc-god Dj Nozaki, JD Samson (Le-Tigre, MEN), and queercore band Limpwrist.

JOHN launches in Athens on the 11/11/11 from 11pm.

Daniel Wang

Born in Northern California, Daniel Wang spent 8 years of his childhood in Taiwan, returned to California for high school, and attended university in New York and Chicago. Instead of finishing his papers, however, he ran out to underground clubs and danced all night to early house music and disco classics, befriending and learning from a few old-school voguers and DJ’s along the way.
Dissatisfied with the increasingly unmusical soundtrack of modern nightlife, Danny started Balihu Records in 1993. The first release became a cult success. Danny moved back to NYC and eventually found a job at Dr. Sound Music Store, where he delved deeply into vintage production gear and synths, including the Theremin.
Balihu put out a range of unusual tracks from 1994 to 2000 in the spirit of Philly and Italo Disco, and Wang began producing for the Environ label in 1997. In the past years, he has performed around the world, and his originality is gradually being recognized.

Yeah I’m thinking of a night with music from the 70s & 80s – disco, boogie, funk, early house, electro and all the leftfield stuff that was explored by people like Mancuso.

So you could play a jazz record, a gospel record, as well as a cosmic record, but these would be the “leftfield” records.

The core of the night would be “the FUNK”! YEAH definitely CLASSICS! At the core! You know what I’m trying to say.

A special night of vinyl and music loving and partying with no pretension. Do it on an irregular basis but make it SPECIAL each time!
And above all have fun with it. You know there’s so much beautiful party music out there…

Sean P (Tirk/Z/Cosmic Boogie)
The young Sean P‘s fascination with music started pre-school, when would he play his father’s records all day and listen to the radio. He was given his first 45 on his birthday in 1971, though it would be the late ’70s before he started buying records himself. It was the time of Two-Tone, Punk and Disco – and Sean took the urban ‘soul head’ route. Spurred by the big sounds of the day from Atmosfear, Azymuth, The Real Thing, Light Of The World and Hi Tension, he tuned in to the specialist Soul shows on the radio – and was soon buying so many records, he had to sneak them home to avoid the inevitable rebuke. Sean would later make tapes for friends and eventually discover record lists, ordering Soul, Funk and Jazz from mainly Northern Soul dealers on a weekly basis; and eventually travelling out of his native London to find obscure titles. Sean played his first gig in Wimbledon in 1986, then another shortly after at the ‘Cafe des Artistes’ in Fulham Road to an appreciative audience. Having been inspired by pirate radio, he made his debut on the airwaves with pal Dave Lee in 1987 and stayed with the station ’til its demise in 1990. By that time, he had also given up his button-down office job and took a post in a record shop – an intended stop gap, but he’s still in the same game today. He played exclusively Funk, Soul and Fusion when he DJed – but in the early 90′s started getting requests to play Disco. He could now also play the Prelude and West End-styled sounds that had been so important for him in the preceeding decade. By now, Sean was helping record labels and magazines by providing sleeve notes, cover copy and other source material for reissue projects and collectables features. Since the 80′s, he had also been experimenting around with tape edits – and decided to join a friend on a venture he christened Better Days Productions. In the meantime, he would assist long-time Disco ‘spotter Dave Lee again, co-compiling and annotating the popular ‘Disco Spectrum’ and ‘Disco, Not Disco’ series. Real Disco for real people.

Το τρίτο μέρος του ROOM 101 θα εξελιχθεί, ως συνήθως, στο ALPHABETALAMDA, αυτή τη φορά, Σάββατο 10 Δεκεμβρίου, και με καλεσμένο έναν πολυσυζητημένο νέο και πολύ ταλαντούχο DJ και παραγωγό, τον Hunee! Μαζί του ένας από τους καλυτέρους, κατά τη γνώμη μας, Αθηναίους, ο Dynamons.

Στον Hunee αρέσει το φαγητό. Μεγάλωσε σε μια γκρίζα και βαρετή πόλη όπου η βαριά βιομηχανία και τα πράσινα δάση συνυπάρχουν. Στην εφηβεία του χρωμάτιζε το τοπίο αυτό με rap και soul. Τα τελευταία 10 χρόνια ο Hunee είναι μόνιμος κάτοικος Βερολίνου και φτιάχνει bumpin’ disco για πρωινό, ζεσταίνει deep jackin’ house για το μεσημεριανό του γεύμα, ενώ σιγά σιγά χαμηλώνει τους τόνους με soulfull ήχους για βραδινό. Ο Hunee είναι επίσης καλός κολυμβητής, όταν βρίσκεται όμως εκτός του υγρού στοιχείου, κάνει παραγωγές για εταιρείες όπως οι Feel Music, W.T. Records, Internasjonal, Retreat, Rush Hour, Drumpoet Commmunity και Permanent Vacation.

Hunee is a good eater. He comes from a grey and boring city, where heavy industrialization and green forests go hand in hand. In his teenage years, he used to colour this environment with rap and soul music. Now being a Berlin resident for almost ten years – he eats bumpin’ disco for breakfast, heats up deep jackin’ music for lunch and slows it soulfully down for dinner. In the night he prefers to spend his time cookin a special meal on the turntables. He is a good swimmer too – when he’s out of the water, he makes records for labels like Feel Music, W.T. Records, Internasjonal, Retreat, Rush Hour, Drumpoet Commmunity and Permanent Vacation.

Ξεκίνησε ακούγοντας old school hip hop, funk, punk και leftfield ενώ τώρα τα DJ set του επικεντρώνονται κυρίως στην ηλεκτρονική μουσική και σε ένα μείγμα σκοτεινών και ενίοτε αδιευκρίνιστων ηλεκτρονικών ήχων, ψυχεδελικής disco, boogie, Chicago house και Detroit techno. Παράλληλα έχει ιδρύσει και τρέχει μαζί με δύο καλούς του φίλους την δισκογραφική εταιρία Echovolt η οποία μετράει έως σήμερα, τέσσερις κυκλοφορίες από διάφορους παραγωγούς από όλο τον κόσμο.

Dynamons’ musical background is rooted in old school hip hop, funk, punk and leftfield.
Nowadays his DJ sets are more focused on electronic music, trying to present a blend of obscure electronics, psychedelic disco, boogie, Chicago house, Detroit techno and beyond.
He also runs, alongside friends, Echovolt records, a label counting four releases to date from various producers all over the world.
